DC R1D3R, 29/05/2008 - The good guys over at TeamXbox have managed to get their hands on Tom Clancy’s futuristic RTS (Real Time Strategy) EndWar, and by the looks of things, Ubisoft have a corker of a game in store for us! The game features voice commanded controls (that accept different accents) and you can choose whether to play the entire game from the up close camera views or play the game from the traditional situation map view. EndWar is set in the near future, and you're in the middle of WWIII, fought between the U.S.-led Joint Strike Force, the European Enforcers Corps and the Russian Spetznaz Guard Brigades! If you like deep RTS's, make sure to keep a look out for this title.
Well, here’s the good news: the voice recognition software works. Like, really, really well. In my time playing the game, it only misunderstood me a handful of times, and it was usually my fault.
Since it’s a conventional war, it will be fought with the kind of units you’ve become accustomed to in video games over the years. Infantry, tanks, artillery, helicopter gunships and more will all be in play and under your command on a fully destructible battlefield. Each of the factions is unique in their units and play style as well as each of their single weapons of mass destruction.
With a deep single player campaign supported by a carefully crafted storyline, and a persistent online multiplayer world that tracks games played globally and reflects the daily results on a big three dimensional globe, EndWar should have much to please the most discerning strategy war game fan. But the innovations in the control scheme and the well executed and solidly performing voice recognition soft ware is what’s going to get this gamer in the door when the game releases (hopefully) at the end of this year.
Here's a video from the Ubidays 2008 conference, where the developer explains the control methods in more detail.
