DC R1D3R, 29/05/2008 - The guys over at Eurogamer have compiled their stat sheets and can reveal (through Chart-Track) that in the UK, Xbox 360 consoles have been outselling Sony's PlayStation 3 since the launch of GTA IV. That's right folks, Xbox 360 sales have surged a dramatic 18 per cent ahead of the PS3. What's more, official GTA IV sales figures for the first four weeks show that the Xbox 360 is now the format of choice for UK gamers, with 57 per cent of the total sales of the game on 360, compared to just 43 per cent on it's main competitor, the PS3.
Current Chart-Track panel sales figures place sales of the game in the UK at over 1.3 million, meaning around 750,000 copies have shifted on Xbox 360, and around 570,000 on PS3. To put that into context, in under four weeks Rockstar’s opus has shifted almost as many copies as last year’s best-seller, FIFA 08 - a game which launched on every format under the sun.
This news must surely bring a smile to the bigwigs over at MS and it just goes to show that real gamers recognize what console to turn to for the best gaming experience (when it comes to hardcore games anyway). If in 2005 you'd have told me that the Xbox 360 version would outsell the PS3 by 2-1 worldwide, I would have laughed in your face. How times have changed.
